PS5 Pro is generally posting really positive results in games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Hogwarts Legacy, but as with all things in life, there are inconsistencies.
It’s worth underlining that it’s down to individual developers to get the most out of Sony’s hardware, and not all of them are doing a good job. We’ve reported on the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Silent Hill 2, two titles which are pretty terribly enhanced on PS5 Pro. Others showing sub-optimal results include Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Alan Wake 2.
And now some early adopters are campaigning for the ability to play games in their original guise. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 allows you to do this, for example: you can toggle between the standard PS5 settings or the PS5 Pro options if you want to.
“PSSR is amazing, but it is not the magic bullet that fixes all image quality problems that some games have if you just replace the previous upscaling solution with this new one,” one fan noted on Reddit. “It still needs to be properly implemented and tested. Maybe Sony should mandate that all PS5 Pro patches need to still include all modes of the standard PS5 version.”
That same person added: “I wanted to continue playing Star Wars Outlaws in the 40fps mode until I found out that Ubisoft removed all previous modes with the PS5 Pro patch. I was quite annoyed when I discovered that.”
This creates an interesting headache for Sony: the console experience is built on the idea that things work out of the box, so would adding more options create confusion? We’d argue the PS5 Pro is designed for enthusiasts first-and-foremost, so it wouldn’t hurt to give them more flexibility.
Ultimately, we think the real problem here is developers deploying undercooked patches. No game should look worse on the PS5 Pro, but some titles are releasing in that state. We understand there’s little financial incentive for companies to go back to their older games and update them, but if they’re actively breaking their software, maybe it’d be better to do nothing at all. Surely they want their titles to be presented in the best quality possible?
These are probably just early teething troubles for the PS5 Pro; the hardware is new and developers are still getting to grips with PSSR. Nevertheless, it’s not a great look if £700/$700 hardware is making popular titles look worse, is it?
Should PS5 Pro patches include the option to revert to standard PS5 settings? (2,442 votes)
- Yes, give players as many options as possible
- I don't really know
- No, too many options gets too confusing

Completely agree. Can't see why we can't have the original options from OG ps5... Maybe I am fine as it is but want just those brute forced extra frames?
As a day one owner it is now clear to me that ps5 not having any sort of CPU upgrade is really bottlenecking the overall experience of "PRO"
Suddenly my peasant-class PS5 is looking pretty good!
So it has begun..... time to return those PS5 Pro purchases.
I'm surprised the Pro options weren't just added in with the original graphic options for every game. Really weird for some devs to just outright remove them.
And this prooves the point that it is not the hardware the problem. Never was. It is the devs. Now we see how capable those are...
@Deadlyblack I never really thought about it much. But then I was always working on the assumption PS5 Pro would never have updates that make games worse.
I don't understand developers releasing patches like this.
"Campaign to Disable Support" is nice clickbait
Id prefer not to have too many options.
One of the main reasons I've intentionally avoided PC gaming is because I love the "plug in an play" aspect of owning a Console.
I'm by no means a technophob but PC gaming scares the life out of me
Lmao push square u guys must be bored this is just sad
Options are always good - particularly in the cases of incompetent devs.
Seriously though, even more choices (on every game) eg RT on/off, framerate uncapping, etc would only be a good thing - have pre set profiles for those that dont want too many choices, and allow tweaking if wanted. This would also benefit base PS5 too imo, but probably more the Pro given the target audience and additional GPU power.
What an absolute joke this entire gen has been. Sony needs competition or this is what we end up with.
I'm so ***** tired, of being a "beta tester", for these multi billion dollar companies...
Never buy anything day 1!
How many more times do people need to be burned before they learn?
how would have concord looked on it
@Wario_Waha
You are a self professed Nintendo only gamer.
From your bio "Formerly a PlayStation/Xbox gamer turned Nintendo only gamer"
Given this, your Anti PS5-Pro / Sony comments feel somewhat disingenuous.
You do realise this is a Playstation only site dont you?
I’d just like a max fps and max res mode please and thanks
I must admit I have a PS5 Pro and the odd title shines through.
But it is not as wide spread or different from base PS5 as I thought it would be.
Maybe overtime it might improve.
@Member_the_game It's not as bad as you'd think.
I took a 12 year hiatus from PC games because I found myself tinkering more with settings than I did playing games. I moved to console for the simplicity.
I don't like where the console space is headed with Microsoft seemingly throwing in the towel and Sony essentially going "unchecked". Nintendo are in their own lane at the moment and seem to have found a perfect balance being in that lane.
Yes, I paid about $2K when all was said and done, but I don't regret it one bit! I think I am not only covered for this generation, but next generation as well.
PC gaming has never been so easy and I have been enjoying games so much more now than I ever have back in the day.
If you basically just want to play the game, most modern games have console quality settings as their defaults. Some auto-detect your system settings and adjust accordingly and can even be higher than console settings.
Plus, if you decided to go with an Nvidia GPU, Nvidia provides its own optimized settings based on your hardware that you can just click a button to Optimize (or even have it Auto-optimize everything if you want) and you never have to look at the settings menu in a game ever.
I'd argue that most PC players who are spending a bunch of time tweaking their games are trying to get their games to run in FPS that match the native refresh rate of their monitors (for context, mine is 165Hz).
But if you just want to shoot for 60fps, then that's pretty achievable with most modern games without touching a single setting.
Most games for the PS4/X1 era and below can pretty much run at Max settings and well above 60fps on a modern PC.
It also depends on whether you turn RT on or off. If you absolutely couldn't care one lick about real-time RT, then basically any game past or present will run above 60fps at above console quality settings.
But, I would caveat that you'd need at least an Nvidia 4070 if you care about doing that at 4K. I honestly see more detail in my 1440p monitor than I do my 4K TV - so 4K really isn't necessary in my opinion.
Give people the options. I mentioned before release that the lack of cpu upgrade and the 2ms frame time cost of PSSR (60fps is 16ms) means that some games would have issues like this, alot of people did.
But forcing people to play a worse version on the pro console needs fixing and being able to revert back to fsr/old settings is essential.
God the reaction of folk these days is just sad. These are just teething issues if you can call them that. Most people won’t even notice this stuff if really is a bit embarrassing especially for the people claiming the PRO is no good. The first car wasn’t perfect, neither was the first space shuttle. Things get ironed out and any issues I’m sure are software so let’s not go over the top eh
Some of these comments and this article makes this situation WAY WORSE than it actually is. I know because I own a Pro.
The good FAR outweighs the bad.
I feel like many negative comments are actually negative because the Pro is too expensive for them while trying too use excuses mentioned in the article. Though, I do game on an OLED that has VRR and can get up to 120fps. So, people who bought a Pro and are capped at 60 with an older tv may have a different experience.
"there’s little financial incentive"
Disagree.
– I bought F1 24 just because it has great PS5 Pro support, otherwise I would just wait for it to be on a service like I always did in the past (EA Play and PS Plus)
– Bought Horizon Remastered because of PS5 Pro support.
– Will buy Alan Wake 2 earlier than I would because of the PS5 pro support.
Would I pay 5-10 USD extra for remastered versions for PS5 Pro? Yes.
Give me Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro update with the same amount of settings as Spider-Man 2 has and I will pay for it.
@OldGamer999 That's my feeling from the SSD-equipped PS4 Pro to the PS5. Seems like a case of diminishing returns.
I think we have to face it that some games were designed in a particular way to be optimal(ish) on whatever hardware it was designed on and the Pro interfering with it is going to cause some side-effects.
PS4 Supersampling was simpler, rendering a 4K screen and then squashing it to 1080p for the display but this is dynamically tweaking stuff that maybe the game doesn't like.
@Mikey856 would you to spend 700 dollars.or whatever your currency is and still have to wait for patches to do what it was suppose to, week by week sony just enforce the whole " expensive ps6 beta" there's no excuse for this small problem or not, according to sony the PRO was in development at the same time of original ps5 yet it still isnt ready, however granted not 100% console fault , I think some have a place to complain/react
@Major_Player
Im not sure if your being sarcastic or not.
If you are, then yes its a storm in a tiny teacup (with some of these devs not exactly having the best track records).
If PSSR is found to have some issues, its not a big surprise, and they will fix it - their whole console strategy going forwards relies on it!
But this is on the devs for not QA testing it - even DF have said similar for at least 1 of these errant patches. At what point did they not think - "oh its not quite worked. Let us contact Sony, remove PSSR and just use the extra GPU to smooth framerate issues / increase pre upscaler pixel counts".
If you werent being sarcastic - why would I sell it given all the games ive checked out or played have shown decent to great improvement! And thats just the quick patches! (Then all the above).
The irony here seems to be is that the games where the Pro support is a big upgrade, such as FFVII, TLOU2 and Insomniac games, they all either have the previous options or equivalents when there is no need to go back.
Luckily for me, every game I'm playing has been a tangible or huge upgrade over the base PS5 but the simple fact is that no developers should be releasing patches where the game looks worse on the more powerful console in the first place.
Removed - unconstructive; user is banned
@OmegaStriver yeah for me it's been nothing but a big upgrade. I've been playing The Last of Us Part 2, FFVII Rebirth, Horizon Zero Dawn and today RE2 in its RT mode and every single one of them is a noticable or huge upgrade.
Of those games struggling, most of them have already performed badly on every platform they released on, so I certainly wouldn't be using them as being representative of the hardware
And here I was being told it was game changing as well.
Can't say this surprised me at, the amount of stock people put in this machine to be the magic fixall.
Glad you all get to beta test it before they implement their new tech properly in the PS6 though!
@Wario_Waha bingo. However you will get predominantly responders making excuses for the situation.
It's at least a bit reassuring that outside these brand allegiant website echo chambers, there are those that are willing to voice their frustration with such an overpriced piece of hardware releasing in circumstances that don't really justify it's "premium" marketing.
Honestly yeah i think there should be an option to play with base PS5 settings because while most games run and look better we do have Jedi Survivor looking worse.
I do have to laugh at the person wanting the downgraded 40fps option for Outlaws though. Outlaws on Pro is the best way to play it on console so why someone would want to take a hit both in visuals and performance is beyond me.
@Uromastryx just a complete overreaction mate . And I did I have one and I’m more than happy with it thanks
Currently transferring data to my Pro. Maybe I should have just been happy with my OG. Whoops!
Removed - disrespecting others; user is banned
If I paid £700 for a console with disc drive and stand but then was playing standard PS5 versions on it then that thing would be going back and I'll have my £700 back thank you very much
End of the day your paying for the PREMIUM that Sony has to offer, and it should mean Sony working with these Devs to make sure there games are in the best form possible. Because of this it's a negative to owning one sorry it is
@Wario_Waha I mean Digital Foundry and GamingTech gave the Pro glowing reviews so not really disaster is it when the actual expects say otherwise.
Honestly the people i'm finding moan most about the Pro are those for whatever reason don't have a Pro. Me though i've been playing Spidey 2 NG+ at 4K/60fps this past week, Metaphor at 60fps and Stellar Blade NG+ at 4K/60fps where it looks better then ever. The Pro has way way more hits then misses and you would know that if you had one.
@Mikey856 I'm not saying it's not an overreaction, and I'm happy your enjoying yours as i am mine , but people annoyance isn't pulled out of thin air,.come on you know how sensitive people are 🤣
@Rich33 Major Player is a noted Xbox troll, that's all you need to know about their comments.
there seem to be some comparisons between having more options and PC options. consoles have always been simple using modes rather then specific graphics settings. having a couple more or even a toggle switch to show non-pro modes would be no drawback IMHO.
@LowDefAl
RE your post on the CPU.
Completely agree, and better written than I could have done - its not the most optimal of situations, but I think you are spot on - im sure I heard/read from a reliable source that the 10% CPU boost comes from a 2% GPU drop (which is still quite a way over base GPU), suggesting thermals.
But as you say, its pretty silly planning if your game is hitting CPU limits on all consoles.
@Sergo I recall a comment from Digital Foundray where it was suggested that in some cases the hardware is making up for faults in the software which is not a good thing and I totally think this hits the nail on the head. This console was totally unnecessary and the likes of PSSR is awesome but they could have just held of and put this in the PlayStation 6 either way we have it now and it is what it is.
I mean there should be no reason to ever use them unless the patch is released broken.
All these issues will get ironed out in due course and then there will no need to ever think about them again.
My favourite part of gaming is knowing I am the only one who is right and everyone else is too blind to see the truth!
@MrPeanutbutterz @GameOfTheGeneration (@LowDefAl)
Thank you, I didnt know if he was just being sarcastic - I spotted the Nintendo fanboy, but they were being obvious, and had confirmed it in their Bio!
Without the fanboys, or haters, this could have been a very worthwhile thread about options and choices - particularly given that even in well done patches, everyone has slightly different opinions on what made it good eg fps / visuals / combination.
The problem is the developers/publishers. Not the hardware. Always has been. There are people here claiming that the hardware is the problem, or a scam, or a beta test. It's not. The problem is the developers. There are also plenty of games that have been improved a lot on the Pro without even having official support simply because the original versions of the game were broken (e.g., Elden Ring, Atelier Ryza 2).
I wouldn't mind something to tell me I'm actually playing the pro version , I've tried a few games now with no indication whether it's got a patch or not even though it says pro enhanced , maybe a little message when you start a game first time listing the changes would help, sonys first party are excellent as expected, I'm suprised and disappointed with remedy I expected better, and wheres cdpr patches surely witcher 3 and cyberpunk could benefit.
Do these people not understand the “learning” part of machine learning? DLSS was trash in its first iteration as well. Are the implementations for certain games at the moment poor? Yeah. But these things take time.
*laughs histerically for people shelled out a gigantuos amount of money
Also Playstation should allow to play transferred games without the disc, I can't play them now and it's impossible to buy the disc drive for PS5 Slim/Pro in the UK. What the hell? Sent the disc drives here or unlock the transferred games.
If devs can't be arsed to ensure their game works as expected for an option they've chosen to support then they really should get a dictionary and look up 'redundancy'...
Early days yet. I'm reading a lot more positive comments about the ps5 Pro than negatives. My mate is currently playing gt7 on his and he says it's damn nice and he is still bringing it round to my house to use my steering wheel on it. Buddy at work has bought one and he's happy as a pig in ***** with it. I think these issues are completely down to the devs not getting to grips with the new machine yet and hopefully by the time I get mine they will get better. So long as gt7 is better on it I'll be happy and I'm hoping EA sports wrc gets a pro upgrade too.
@Horizon_Rover Buy (ideally used) Slim with the drive and put it in the PS5 Pro. Worked for me and cost less then the drive for a retail price. (You just have to sell the [now Digital] Slim after, which is some work)
every rushed update has a bigger risk for problems. PSSR implementation was never gonna be an exception to that rule.
@lazarus11 apparantly cyberpunk is a fair bit better on the ps5 Pro..
CHOICE is always good.
If you think it's too complicated then just present two options (resolution or framerate) and have an advanced settings toggle that gives access to everything else. Personally I'd take framerate over ray tracing in 95% of examples on console.
What Insomniac are doing with the uncapped VRR framerates is genius as it is future-proof. The settings that now give you 70-90fps on PS5 Pro will most likely be around 120fps on PS6 once it arrives.
I’ve been playing Dragon’s Dogma 2 exclusively since getting the PS5 Pro. It’s been a pretty good experience, though maybe people are noticing something I’m overlooking. One tiny thing I did notice was the weird shadow effects on my pawn’s back in certain light. Nothing game breaking.
@Horizon_Rover One must wonder if it's Sony trying to 'encourage' us to make the digital switch. Pretty sure if it doesn't resolve itself soon there could be consumer rights issues. I'm just glad I didn't have to flirt my original PS5, otherwise my options would be incredibly limited.
@Northern_munkey Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, etc. there are many games that are improved without a specific PRO patch. Generally this falls into categories
@Horizon_Rover from what I've heard more stock is due end of November
Soooo, is the Pro good or bad? Seems like we’re all changing our mind here every week since announcement. Week one it was a joke, last week it was the greatest thing ever. Is it really that decisive a console?
I know this is slightly off topic but I'd like to ask of you here that have a pro how the fan noise is? My PS4 Pro was unbearably loud (couldn't hear the TV when it was going full pelt). My base PS5 is silent. Can anyone speak to how loud the pro is? Is it noticeable?
Sounds ridiculous but after the PS4 Pro trauma it's actually a bit of a deal breaker for me.
@Wario_Waha Sony isn't a charity organization mate. Of course they are about making money. Hobbies cost money and we aren't entitled to whatever hobby we choose in life. Gaming is a hobby and the costs have increased for hardware makers and software makers. All while how much people want to spend remaining the same despite purchasing power decreasing. Anyways these issues are a developer issues.
@LiamOliver but ebay is full of them , in hand and confirmed pre orders
@Jey887 can't even hear it
@LavenderShroud welcome to push Square...
@lazarus11 That just amplifies how starved the market is, an issue that can only be resolved by Sony.
Although if a MASSIVE stock drop occurs soon that shafts the scalpers I'll be too busy laughing to snap one up...
"Ultimately, we think the real problem here is developers deploying undercooked patches."
Why would developers care one way or the other? They don't have hardware to sell. Most of these games are already optimized for PCs, so the market of non-PlayStation focused enthusiasts (i.e., most tech enthusiasts) is already satisfied. Who cares if Silent Hill 2 runs worse on Pro when it's already sold plenty on PC and base PS5.
My word, the worlds on the verge of war and people are getting their knickers/pants in a twist over teething troubles in a flippin games console that no-one has to buy.
And a post on Reddit does not a campaign make, come on PS, there's enough click-bait already.
Black Ops runs better without a patch, Helldivers looks a bit better as well. I can wait for Silent Hill and Space Marine to be patched, Rebirth will last me a while yet.
Wasn't the point of the pro to get rid of the options and just have every game running 4K at 60 frames
Removed - discussing moderation; user is banned
@Balaam_ There was never any expectation set for Pro games looking worse or having minor visual glitches that a base PS5 doesn't have, but possibly getting better after time - such a notion is absurd. Also how do the games get better? By Sony pushing firmware updates or by the developer having to change their implementation?
Giving the PS5 Pro a capability that the base PS5 doesn't have, and which actually makes games worse if implemented poorly, was a mistake. Because the Pro will inevitably only be owned by a small fraction of the market, reality being what it is, most developers will never put in the time and effort needed to utilize PSSR well.
The Pro should have just been a faster PS5. PSSR was a mistake.
@Steel76 Then DON'T BUY DAY ONE!!! Problem solved.
@LavenderShroud It is same chaos as PS5.
This is hilarious. Only reason to buy a PS5 pro and it won't even deliver that properly.
Oh yeah sure, it's in the developers hands. But it was ALWAYS in the developers hands and this will ALWAYS be an issue going forward to varying extent.
Also just wanted to say that people obviously should have either known this already or at least been educated about it.
No point throwing hissy fits about it now
Quite funny really. Definitely shows that people shouldn’t be comparing pc to consoles. When you upgrade the gpu for one you get better performance across the board, when you upgrade the gpu for the other you get better performance in a selection of titles and worse performance in several others 😉
The interview missed the option. "Allow developers to push back on Sony and say they're not ready".
The substandard patches almost undoubtedly because pressure would've been applied somewhere in the chain to release too soon. Perhaps after some shoddy AI driven "patch to run better" routine
How the turn tables
Should have thought about what 700 was being spent on if you already had the base PS5. Greed and love for material objects again. Lack of basic life knowledge and a love for more power, sounds like the generation these days tbh.
@Jey887
Similar to others:
Its a little bit louder than the base PS5 fan when games are running, Its a larger (probably faster) fan after all.
But I can only hear it when the game is paused / TV is muted - even then I cant hear it if say the boiler in the kitchen is going, and definitely not when game related sounds are playing through the TV.
For context, I could easily hear the 4 Pro unless I turned the TV up really loud.
@crypticc
I get that devs releasing good patches at launch get extra positive marketing, but why on earth would you not QA test a patch before release, or release a QA failed patch anyway - the potential bad reputation is not worth the risk.
The devs involved with these games are getting an awful lot of bad press (not that some needed any more), that will get remembered by some the next time they put out a game, and imo thats on them.
@LowDefAl So there's 3 flaws in my logic? PCs versions aren't optimized, people don't but poorly running games, and there's already a precedent of patching games.
1) I said "most" games, not all. I fully understand that PC games aren't optimized by default. But there's enough games that run best on PC that I think I can say they're optimized for PC — that's comparatively rather than per se. There's really not much else to your rebuttal to comment on without going off track on optimization, console vs. PC, what the consumer is entitled to, etc.
2) People do buy poorly running/optimized games. Your one anecdote doesn't rebuke the many, many millions of sales the likes of CoD, Battlefield, 2K, Madden, et al. Or open-air Zelda. Or Elden Ring. Or Cyberpunk. Or pre-Starfield Bethesda. The list goes on and on and on.
3) It's a bit of gentlemanly practice that developers continue to patch their games at no cost to the consumer. They don't really have to do that; surely there are only specific, rare cases where patches do anything significant to sales. But I'm not really questioning that. I'm questioning why they should care about the user-experience of a specific SKU of a specific console of — often, it seems — a specific graphical feature. As long as the game's playable, which most are, why should Konami care if the version of the game on a $700 variant plays worse? That's not their problem, it's Sony's. Sony's the one trying to sell the Pro; it's their burden to prove it's worthwhile.
@Dynamq How is using money that you earn, for things you want, "Lack of basic life knowledge"?
If you can barely afford to eat/pay-bills and you are spending the money you should be using for rent, on a PS5 Pro, sure. But if all your bills are paid, and you have disposable income; what does it matter what you choose to spend it on? You could light it on fire if it makes you happy, you earned it, do what you want with it.
To the topic at hand, they absolutely should have the option to use the old modes. Even a "good" patch might have trade-offs that I am not willing to make on a game-by-game basis, so it would be great to be able to turn that off. A simple solution would be to allow you (at the system level) to toggle PS5/PS5 Pro flag on a per-game basis.
I think PS5 Pro will only start to get more widespread appeal when games like Ghost of Yotei and GTA 6 are out.
@Stickleman Is that an American saying? I only know "how the tables have turned"
@PerpetualBoredom "*laughs histerically for people shelled out a gigantuos amount of money"
I think the fact that you think 700 dollars is a "gigantous amount of money" is funnier.
Choice should always be a priority, you have the internet to know how to use these choices.
Now, if such choices suck and not implemented well. Revert to the standard until such issues are fixed.
@Dudditz09
This is so juvenile.
@mrmartinrohr I'm still selling my PS5 (Mammoth Edition). So, it's too much hassle because of scammers and time wasters. And there is a risk to get the old dusty drive 2.5 x more expensive in this case. And I wouldn't like to buy any used item anyway.
@darylb24 Yes, I have bought it because of GTA 6 to be fair. This was the main reason and the reason No. 2 was the age of my PS5.
$699 well spent lol
@lazarus11 I hope so, I have an order placed at one retailer, they are due to deliver it by 20th of November, but, I believe they won't as they run out of stock the next day after I placed my order. So my order got stuck on "processing".
@darylb24 it's a silly quote from USA 'the office'
@Wario_Waha People have enabled sony to operate this way, a lot of playstation players will just pre order every game under the sun as though they don't have any games to play, i think a lot of the people who own concord are probably push square members.
People need to stop pre ordering games and start purchasing on discount instead of enabling companies to release poorly optimised games (DD2 is) and still turn a profit, when people vote with their wallet games will return to the pre 2014 status quo of almost every game being great with very few stinkers as opposed to now where it's very few good games and a buffet of mediocrity.
So, the honeymoon period is over, and people had to fling the bling and buy a pro just because they needed to upload that to Instagram or something. And now they aren't happy that the new machine isn't perfect straight away? They don't sound like serial early adopters to me!
@darylb24 nah its just from the US Office.
Just so happens to be that I've been watching it alot lately soooo...
@Uromastryx I do know how sensitive people are these days and that’s exactly the problem man lol.
@Amppari gotta get the clicks!
@LowDefAl the pro fan is about 30% wider and has waaaay more heat pipes inside, as the pro uses 10% more power than the slim, which in turn used more power that the OG PS5.
It's bound to be louder as a result
@carlos82 I agree and want to add that Resident Evil 4 looks fantastic playing in the 120htz mode with VRR along with the 60htz mode with full ray tracing.
With how Sony handled their first party titles with their pro modes, I’m really excited for the next the ghost game and wolverine and whatever else they bring.
@Balaam_
"Do these people not understand the “learning” part of machine learning?"
If by "these people", you mean your average punter then probably not.
Most buyers would just think 'Pro = better', (and why not?) not "these things take time", as you put it.
More stuff in the options menu doesn’t mean it doesn’t work out if the box. It still does, I can just dive myself while others don’t.
@get2sammyb wccftech just did an article with someone explaining how the sdk updates and stuff works and essentially these games are using an early piss poor version
Yeah I appreciated stellar blade left the original options in but only so I could compare them vs the pro options!
@LindyG I have been gaming since about ‘86 - lol!
I guess that’s the thing, I only use my PC for gaming - and web browsing as it’s kind of hard to not use the internet these days.
I was like your friends when I was into PC gaming back in the late 90s and early 2000s - constantly chasing Ultra settings/maximum FPS. It’s the reason I went console-only because I was spending so much time and money chasing to have “the best”.
I think being a console gamer for so long made me simply appreciate just playing the game. My PC is almost exactly like yours - but I am using 4070 Super. It certainly outclasses a console, but I am a realist in that it will probably be more “on par” with next-gen.
I’m okay with that. I just want to play the game - I don’t care that games like Silent Hill 2 Remake or Alan Wake 2 don’t run at 165fps to match my monitor refresh - it’s a VRR display anyways.
And modern games on PC are much more convenient for that plug and play experience than early 2000s.
I also don’t play multi-player games, so I don’t have to deal with cheaters.
Maybe I will regret my decision in 5 years, or maybe I made the best decision to get out of consoles.
But, I certainly understand your gripes and I hope the PS5 Pro and PS6 (should you stick with it) are everything you hoped they would be! It’s not a bad choice at all, just not the choice for me anymore.
Besides, I still have my base PS5 (just in case).
@Mikey856
"The first car wasn’t perfect, neither was the first space shuttle."
Sure thing. The first space shuttle, Enterprise, had no engines or heat shield.
Silent hill hasn't had a patch since the 25/10 it isn't patched at all for the pro which apparently means it isn't using PSSR. I read it's in boost mode so it's showing issues with the extra oomph that weren't so noticeable prior. People on PC have the shimmer as well. That said it's runs better FPS wise though, just the reflections are messed up, especially in performance mode.
Been playing dragon's dogma 2 on the pro and duuude sure there's some problems but man I can't go back to no Ray Tracing! Game looks gorgeous now! Before it was so flat to get decent performance.
I would not include dd2 on the bad patch. Maybe they're just trying to seem there's a lot of patched games with problems.
This nightmare scenario does not exist for me. OLED 120hz though so idk
Not sure about the others, but I played Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Alan Wake 2 on PS5 Pro and they both look fantastic- WAY better than on PS5. Don't know what people are on about for those games in particular! People complain too much.
@Mattlong78 Well, but if you need the PS6 to be great then you need to issue PSSR now and clear the issues. Better have those current problems on PS5 pro and clean those , rather to have a new generation with issues. You need to see that perspective too. So, in terms of Sony's plans, PS5 pro is needed to make PS6 great.
@TheKurgan and I’m sure it was appollo 7 that finally made it into space lol
@GamingFan4Lyf @LindyG
(@GamingFan - We have discussed similar in the past, I know)
As someone who has thought about switching to PC, would have done without Pro releasing, and may well do at PS6 launch if console doesnt take enough steps to erradicate sub 60 fps, I enjoyed reading your posts about the benefits and negatives of PC - it is nice to see perspectives without this mentality I see of PC being automatically better and with no downside whatsoever!
Console could learn well from PC - one of my earlier posts this artiicle was that I would be all up for all games offering more graphics choices / performance choices, particularly on Pro (which I am very much enjoying). Eg toggles on things like RT (which most of the time I do not want to take the performance hit for) and Frame rate uncapping for 120hz, but also upscaler choice between PSSR and whatever base console uses (FSR / in house). Have pre set profiles for 'casual' gamers, and custom options for others.
But, as you both more or less agreed, I just do not see this micro managing of framerate. I am one of the biggest posters here against framerate issues on console, and less than 60fps is awful, but much higher than 90 (with VRR of course) really feels like diminishing returns - great if it gets to 120 (on TV), but not worth too much effort for a few induvidual frames.
Anyway, enjoy to Pro / PC!
@Bamila you only just realising this this is the reason pc fans and Xbox fans have been trying to say all along but insed playstation fans just called us stupid the PS5 pro was a stupid idear and I just feel bad for all that got ripped off by Sony the ps6 would have been fine but a pro for 700 dolla yeah wow that's just disgusting form Sony
I preorderd the ps5 pro then 3 weeks before release I cancelled it. Why?? The bottleneck of the cpu made me wait till the ps6 to upgrade. All the evidence was there since announcement. Instead of mid life refresh they should just shorten the full cycle by a year or two. Am upgrade once every 5 years seems OK to me.....not 7 years. PC hardware refreshs once every 2 two years. I'm sure console people (if it's their hobby) would be ok with a 5 years generational leap. Sonys pro this generation isn't a very good one by gaming standards. My laptop is better, yes it was £900 but much better processor and GPU but it's also a laptop and the games available from multiple store fronts makes games so much cheaper. I personally think sony should aim for 2026 to put out ps6. Will be interesting to see what xbox's response is if they even have any. Their console was awful this generation, zero games on that thing and a controller from 1997
@Wario_Waha you sing your song under every ps5 pro article, right? Start blaming the Devs of software , not the hardware
@get2sammyb im guessing pressure from sony as theres no new blockbuster game that needs it just now.
@KundaliniRising333 I don't think anyone is making excuses about the Pro. There are a lot of people on this website who do not like it. However , this has nothing to do with Sony since the vast majority of games patched for the Pro work wonderfully. These developers are the ones who are failing us in this scenario, as Jedi survivor runs terribly across all platforms. So I don't understand the Sony hate in this particular article.
@Pilot_Six4 im guessing sony is paying for a lot of these patches as no way a dev of a years old game is bothering
The Premium Console experience: pay 700$ to become a beta tester for the next few months.
Sony was right: it truly is for the enthusiasts.
@LindyG
I think thats the big trade off - more power vs more messing about.
Selecting parts - I would probably go high spec, for future proofing (and I know nothing about cooling / case size / power supply, well apart from the obvious), but the bit that puts me off is exactly what you describe in your paragraph about tweaking - all the messing around with settings/ drivers you dont know you need to change.
Although i would still need to put it through my main TV (4k Sony, 120hz, VRR, HDMI 2.1) - I have got far too used to the size, and cant put a similar sized monitor anywhere.
That said - I am really enjoying Pro, and think the upgrade from launch model was well worth it. Although it may have been helpful if the CPU could have had a bit more of an upgrade, I think its a really good console.
If Pro hadnt been an option - I might of caved in to the extra power afforded by PC - I love gaming, but sub 60fps really makes me feel ill these days (literally im afraid, a more and more common occurance with people I believe). But I also have a large PS library.
Pro allowed me to "kick the can down the road" a few more years until hopefully Sony can get on top of the info they divulged about 75% of players use Performance modes! (If not, hopefully PC will be simpler then! Unlikely, but I can hope).
@LindyG I don't know what problems the RTX 4090 users encounter, but I finished Silent Hill 2 Remake on my RTX 3090 (4k rez, no RT, DLSS on Optimized, mix of high+max settings): encountered no graphical problems or crashes, the game ran at 55-60 FPS throughout the playthrough. It is less optimized compared to other games, no doubts there, but once the graphical settings properly chosen, the game looked very well and had no issues from start to finish.
What is this with new age game with taking options away instead of adding new stuff.
looks like people are getting what they deserve for supporting sony's scummy business practices and contributing to the downfall of console gaming as we know it
In outlaws defense theres no official pro mode yet. But a lot of these 3rd party games have been looking rough.
@Porco I really don't see what there is to celebrate? Are you that depressed?
@Major_Player had mine for less than 24 hours. No noticeable difference barring a small framerate boost, and that’s using VRR which comes with its own issues. Leaving hardware improvements up to developers to take advantage of is going to backfire hard.
What they doing now Sony PlayStation is they want achieving the highest selling console,because they have lost a lot money with ps5 against the scammers who purchased with the bots a few years back.
@Realist (#92) stay classy and do whatever you like!
@Porco (#130) right, they keep feeding off of their fomo just to get it up theirs by an industry that keeps milking them. But whatever makes folks who have spare money happy, I guess.
